The bottom 3 horses on the card are 'reserves'

Does anyone know what happens regarding the draw in the event of reserves running ?

Say 3 of the horses in the field are non runners and the 3 reserves get in........do they all just shuffle up to fill the empty stalls and the reserves go in the (now empty) outside stalls

Or do the reserves just slot in the stalls that the withdrawn horses were originally alotted ?

I think over 5 furlongs on a turning track the draw is pretty important !

How can you study the race if you don't know which stalls the horses are gonna come out of ?
